INDIANAPOLIS—Gary Brackett has overcome countless challenges in his football career and has triumphed over life’s adversities. Focusing on the importance of a positive attitude, hard work, commitment to teammates, love of family, and faith, he shares his inspiring life tale in his new book, Winning: From Walk-On to Captain, In Football and Life (Clerisy Press, December 2011).

As the antithesis of the pampered professional athlete, Gary began his football career as a walk-on in college and an undrafted rookie for the Indianapolis Colts. His perseverance and rugged faith have sustained him physically, emotionally, and spiritually.

Framed within the frenzy leading up to a Super Bowl, Gary highlights the defining moments and lessons from his journey leading to the threshold of a championship season. Readers are invited inside the world of the NFL and the drama leading up to the biggest game of the year.

Gary’s life reflects the indisputable value of courage over calamity, goal-setting, caring for others, and love of family as the bedrock for individual growth and success. In 2007, Gary started his IMPACT Foundation to provide opportunities to children from all walks of life.

Throughout this insightful, moving tale, Gary provides glimpses of real-life heroes, on and off the field, as he recounts his story in this touching testament to the memory of his mom, dad, and brother.

Gary Brackett was born and raised in New Jersey. He attended Glassboro High School in Glassboro, N.J. where he was a two-time All-South Jersey selection, a two-time All-Group I choice, and a two-time All-Tri-County Conference choice. He was a walk-on to the Rutgers University football team, but he was the defensive captain and won the team’s defensive MVP honors by his senior year. In 2003, Brackett was signed by the Colts as an undrafted free agent and became a starter in 2005. In 2009 Brackett was the 11th annual recipient of the Arthur S. Arkush Humanitarian Award, presented to an NFL player “whose contributions to the community and charitable organizations are especially outstanding” for his work with the IMPACT Foundation, a charity he founded in 2007.
